Ocean String Chair - Black from Skagerak Denmark - 1380800
Designer: Hans Thyge
The taut strings provide unique seating comfort. They are pleasantly resilient, ventilate the back and prevent the body from sliding back and forth. As an extra feature, they give the chair a light appearance. The chair is available in Black, Petroleum Blue and Dusty Green versions.
The Ocean series was inspired by modern, streamlined sailing ships evoking visions of distant horizons and the open sea. Ocean's design is a beautiful, modern continuation of Skagerak Denmark's maritime history. The beautiful, functional and, not least, innovative materials elegantly underpin the elegant modern design of the furniture and help give the line an international cut.
The many pieces of furniture in the range can be combined to match the home's interior and exterior décor and personal garden style. In other words, Ocean is a pleasing feature all year round – indoors and outdoors.
Stainless steel rusts when used outdoors if left untreated. STAINPROOF is a brand-new mecahnical finish developed by Skagerak Denmark for treating stainless steel. This finish makes the surface extremely resistant to surface rust. At the same time, it provides an elegant, almost soft, silky matte surface that is delightful to the touch and beautiful to look at.Wood
Some of the tabletops are made of teak because of the beautiful appearance of the wood and its many fine properties. This wood has an attractive interplay of dark and golden tones. The high content of natural impregnating oils makes teak highly resistant to rotting and fungus. This makes teak the ideal material for both garden and indoor furniture.Concrete
The Ocean table is also cast in a fibrous concrete that has a rustic, raw radiance because of its heavy, solid concrete tabletop. The tabletop is made of a blend of cement, quartz sand and fibreglass that is far more resistant to water and frost than ordinary concrete. The tabletop is colored charcoal grey and will change color over time to take on lighter shades of grey, accentuating the raw look. Compact Laminate
It is as if the thin, strong material known as compact laminate was just made for the light, elegant styling that is characteristic of the Ocean line. At only 12 mm thick, it is almost as if the black tabletop is hovering over its frame. Despite its light and airy appearance, however, this is a very strong, sturdy table. The smooth, matte surface is scratch-resistant, waterproof, UV-stable and extremely easy to clean.Plastic
The moulded chair shells and some of the tabletops in the Ocean line are made of ASA plastic. This is exceptionally resistant to ultraviolet rays enabiling it to retain its color and lustre even if exposed to strong sunlight. ASA tolerates large fluctuations in temperature and pressure and also flexes easily to provide maximum comfort. In short, ASA is the ideal synthetic material for outdoor furniture.SunLoom Fibre
Highly strung around a steel frame to produce unique sitting comfort, the strings spread out in a pleasant way that ventilates the body and ensures you do not slide to and fro in your seat. The Ocean String chair is made of a specially developed version of the SunLoom fibre. It has a shiny surface that is easy to clean, and a polyester fibrous core to ensure that the strings retain their shape.Read more about the wood used by Skagerak Denmark
